CVT technology is suitable for the traveling transmission system of 16-ton to 30-ton high-position forklifts. Compared with the current AT (hydraulic) transmission system, it can save energy by more than 25%. The current transmission system common rate in the Chinese market for parts is greater than 75%.


Currently, internal combustion forklifts have three mainstream transmission technologies, namely mechanical transmission, hydraulic transmission, and hydrostatic transmission. Mechanical transmission gearbox has the advantages of the highest transmission efficiency and low cost; but it has the advantages of small starting torque, difficult starting and shifting operations, and poor comfort. It is only used in small tonnage low-end forklifts.

Hydraulic transmission has large starting torque, easy operation and moderate cost. It is currently the most widely used technology on the market. However, because the torque converter has very low transmission efficiency during starting and accelerating, it has the largest energy consumption among several transmission methods. It is especially prominent on forklifts that need to start and accelerate frequently.


Hydrostatic transmission has large starting torque, smooth acceleration, easy and precise operation, continuously variable speed ratio, best comfort, transmission efficiency higher than hydraulic transmission, lower than mechanical transmission, but the cost is the highest among several transmission methods, especially In large-tonnage forklifts, due to the need to take into account the requirements of low-speed, high-torque traction and high-speed driving, high-power pumps and motors are required, and the cost problem is more prominent.


Different from the steel belt transmission used in the automobile CVT, the CVT gearbox of the heavy forklift that South China Heavy Industry pioneered in China adopts a mechanical and hydraulic composite transmission method, which is a new torque transmission method. The torque output by the engine is first split into mechanical and static pressure parts for variable speed and torque transmission, and then merges to the output shaft. The transmission ratio is controlled by controlling the ratio of the mechanical and static pressure to achieve the speed ratio. Continuously adjustable. At low speed, it is mainly driven by hydrostatic transmission, which has the advantages of large starting torque, smooth speed change, and good controllability; at high speed, it is mainly driven by mechanical transmission, which has the advantages of high transmission efficiency. Compared with the current widely used AT (hydraulic) transmission system, this kind of gearbox can save energy and reduce emissions by more than 25%, and it is also more energy-efficient than hydrostatic transmission.
